A major Arunachal heroin seizure was reported in Itanagar after police intercepted a narcotics smuggling attempt on National Highway-415. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Itanagar Police successfully recovered suspected heroin and arrested one individual involved in the case.


Arunachal Heroin Seizure on NH-415: How the Operation Unfolded

According to police sources, information regarding the illegal transportation of narcotic substances was received at around 6:30 pm on April 17. Based on this tip-off, a naka (checkpoint) was set up at Chandan Nagar Bridge along NH-415 after obtaining proper authorization.

At approximately 7:20 pm, a vehicle (AS-01-DB-7247) was intercepted during the operation. The vehicle was being driven by Dip Das, a resident of Cooch Behar, West Bengal, currently staying in Chimpu. A 19-year-old woman from West Kameng district was also present in the vehicle.


Heroin Recovered During Search Operation

During the search conducted under the provisions of the NDPS Act, and in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses, police recovered eight vials containing suspected heroin.

The total weight of the seized contraband in this Arunachal heroin seizure case was found to be 11.61 grams. The substances were properly sealed and seized following legal protocols. Additionally, the vehicle used in the transportation was also taken into custody.


Arrest and Legal Action Under NDPS Act

Following the recovery, police arrested the driver, Dip Das. However, the female passenger was not taken into custody due to legal provisions that restrict the arrest of women after sunset and before sunrise. Authorities confirmed that she will cooperate with the investigation.

A case has been registered at Itanagar Police Station under Case No. 99/2026. Relevant sections invoked include Sections 21(a), 27A, and 29 of the NDPS Act.


Police Team Behind the Operation

The successful Arunachal heroin seizure operation was led by Officer-in-Charge Inspector Techi Nega. The team also included Inspector S.S. Jha, Sub-Inspector S. Ngupok, and other personnel from Itanagar Police Station.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Capital Superintendent of Police Jummar Basar.

Investigation Continues

Police have stated that further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended destination of the seized heroin. Authorities are also working to uncover any larger network involved in this narcotics smuggling attempt.
