India’s campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow is gathering momentum, with athletes competing across a wide range of disciplines and several medal opportunities still ahead.
The Games are being held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026. According to the information available in the latest update, India has sent a contingent of 122 athletes.
The India Commonwealth Games 2026 squad is competing across eight sports: athletics, artistic gymnastics, bowls, boxing, judo, swimming, track cycling, weightlifting and 3×3 wheelchair basketball, including para disciplines.
India Opens Medal Account in Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting
India’s early medals have largely come from weightlifting.
Mirabai Chanu delivered the country’s first gold medal in Glasgow, winning the women’s 48kg weightlifting event. The Olympic medallist’s performance once again underlined her importance to India’s international medal hopes.
Rishikanta Singh secured silver in the men’s 60kg weightlifting category, while Muthupandi Raja added another silver in the men’s 65kg competition.
In para powerlifting, Jhandu Kumar earned a bronze medal in the men’s lightweight event.
At the stage covered by the update, India had therefore collected four medals – one gold, two silver and one bronze.

Lovlina Borgohain Assured of a Medal
India also has reason for optimism in boxing.
Lovlina Borgohain has secured at least a medal after reaching the quarter-final stage of the women’s 75kg competition, with the tournament format awarding bronze medals to both losing semi-finalists.
The Indian boxer will, however, be aiming much higher as she looks to turn the opportunity into gold.
Neeraj Chopra Leads India’s Javelin Challenge
One of the biggest names in the Indian contingent is Neeraj Chopra.
The star javelin thrower, who won Commonwealth Games gold at Gold Coast 2018, leads a strong Indian athletics squad in Glasgow. He missed the Birmingham 2022 edition because of injury and will be looking to regain the Commonwealth title.
India’s javelin contingent also features Gurinder Singh, Animesh Kujur, Murali Sreeshankar, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Parul Chaudhary and Gulveer Singh among the athletes highlighted in the update as potential contributors to India’s medal campaign across athletics events.
India’s Commonwealth Games History
India entered Glasgow 2026 with a rich Commonwealth Games record. Before the current edition, the country had won 564 medals across 18 appearances, making India the fourth-most successful nation in Commonwealth Games history, behind Australia, England and Canada.
India first participated in the Commonwealth Games in 1934.
Legendary shooter Jaspal Rana remains India’s most successful individual Commonwealth Games medallist, with 15 medals – nine gold, four silver and two bronze.
India’s best-ever Commonwealth Games performance came at Delhi 2010, where the host nation collected 101 medals: 39 gold, 26 silver and 36 bronze.
At Birmingham 2022, India finished fourth with 61 medals, comprising 22 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze.

India Eyes More Medals in Glasgow
