Quick reads

  • SBI has raised ATM fees for transactions at other banks’ machines beyond the free limits.
  • Cash withdrawal charge is now ₹23 plus GST after free transactions, up from ₹21 previously.
  • Non-financial transactions (like balance enquiry) now cost ₹11 plus GST after the free limit, up from ₹10.
  • Salary account holders’ free limit is now capped at 10 non-SBI ATM uses monthly.
  • Several account types and SBI ATM use remain unaffected by the hike.

What’s changed

The State Bank of India (SBI) has revised its ATM transaction charge structure for customers using other banks’ ATMs. The changes came into effect on December 1, 2025, following an increase in interchange fees the charges banks pay one another when customers withdraw cash from another bank’s machine.

How much do you pay now

Under the new fee structure:

  • Cash withdrawals at non-SBI ATMs beyond free limits will cost ₹23 plus GST per transaction, up from ₹21.
  • Non-financial transactions (like balance checks or mini statements) at non-SBI ATMs beyond free transactions will now cost ₹11 plus GST, up from ₹10.

These fees apply after you’ve used up your free monthly transactions.

Who is affected and how

Savings account holders

  • You still get 5 free ATM transactions per month at other banks’ machines.
  • After the free limit, the revised ATM charges kick in.

Salary account holders

  • Earlier enjoyed unlimited free ATM use at non-SBI ATMs.
  • Now limited to 10 free transactions per month before charges apply.

Current account holders

  • No free non-SBI ATM transaction charges apply from the first use.

Who won’t see extra charges?

  • SBI ATM users: Cash withdrawals and cardless cash withdrawals at SBI ATMs remain free.
  • Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts: Charges remain unchanged under existing rules.
  • Kisan Credit Card (KCC) holders: Continue to enjoy unlimited free transactions at all ATMs.

Why the bank revised fees

SBI said the revision in charges was prompted by the increase in interchange fees imposed by the banking network, which led to a review and update of ATM-related pricing for services offered at other banks’ ATMs.

How to avoid extra ATM charges

  • Use SBI ATMs wherever possible — these transactions remain free.
  • Keep track of your monthly free transaction limits to avoid extra fees.
  • Opt for cashless payments and digital banking where feasible.
