A major argument began after an Indian woman from Arunachal Pradesh was kept at Shanghai Airport for 18 hours without a proper reason. China again claimed Arunachal as its territory, which angered India. India said very clearly that Arunachal Pradesh belongs to India and China’s repeated claims carry no value.
India strongly protests against China
India’s Ministry of External Affairs said the woman was treated unfairly and China broke important international travel rules. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said China also ignored its own law that allows 24-hour transit without a visa. India has raised this issue with Chinese officials and demanded a clear explanation.
China’s action raises big concerns

- China called the woman’s passport “invalid” only because it showed Arunachal Pradesh as her birthplace.
- Officials say this is not the first time China has targeted Indian citizens from Arunachal.
- India believes such actions are attempts to pressure travellers and push China’s false territorial claim.
- Experts warn this may affect travel confidence, student movement, and business exchanges between the two countries.
- Diplomats say China is slowly increasing its aggressive behaviour in border and travel matters.
- India demands that China must guarantee fair and respectful treatment of all Indian travellers.
The issue has again highlighted the long-standing India–China dispute over Arunachal Pradesh. India’s strong stand shows it will firmly oppose any move that questions its borders. The coming days may see more diplomatic discussions as India pushes China to change its behaviour.
